Olive oil and health

In recent years the understanding of the enormous health benefits of regularly consuming olive oil has hugely grown. There is hardly a major health condition that has not been thought or shown to be benefitted by the consumption of olive oil - with this big picture adding up to a massive 34% reduction in the risk of early death amongst those who consumed a mere half spoonful or more a day. It is now believe to be the key factor that makes the famous 'Mediterranean diet' so healthy, and thought to play a huge role in the longevity of most of the remaining 'blue zone' regions, where inhabitants live long and healthy lives beyond the age of 80. Our oil has been chosen and handled with particular focus on the factors understood to explain the many health benefits of olive oil, in particular polyphenol content. On pressing, our Virgin Crush oil has well over 1100mg of polyphenols per litre - an exceptionally high concentration, four times that found even in high quality EVOO. This extraordinary polyphenol content is produced because of the pristine but harsh and rugged environment in which our olive trees grow. Polyphenols are produced to protect plants against environmental challenge - and our bodies are thought to use them in the same way. Our trees grown on precipitous slopes in thin soil over bare limestone. High in the mountains, in winter there is frost and snow - in summer baking heat and drought. The trees respond by racheting up their polyphenol production. We go to unique lengths to make sure all those nutrients are retained, by picking by hand, pressing within hours, storing under controlled conditions, and getting the oil direct to you, fresh and unfiltered.
